Christmas is a happy, family time- right? A time for good will and being ‘merry’- right?
From what some of you tell me, this isn’t always your experience…
If today you feel far from spreading Christmas cheer, I’d like you to pause, take a deep breath and remember what Christmas can mean. Let’s see if it’s possible to move towards a better feeling state. You might need to take 10 minutes, drink a cinnamon latte (or egg nog!), meditate or accept that this year it’s simply not going to be ‘perfect’. Regardless, take that 10 minutes today.
Perhaps take another 10 minutes on Boxing Day and capture what it is that might have helped you this Christmas. In our experience, expecting yourself to remember next year simply isn’t enough to motivate a change in your emotions next year. In your 10 minutes think about what might have helped- a plan, shop earlier, finish work earlier, get better help from others? Whatever your answers are, write them down either straight onto next year’s calendar or into your computer/phone as a detailed calendar reminder, thinking very which month you might want to start your preparations next year.
